چکیده

We study the one-dimensional Holstein model of spinless fermions interacting with dispersionless phonons by using a recently developed projector-based renormalization method (PRM). At half-filling the system shows a metal-insulator transition to a Peierls distorted state at a critical electron-phonon coupling where both phases are described within the same theoretical framework. The transition is accompanied by a phonon softening at the Brillouin zone boundary and a gap in the electronic spectrum. For different filling, the phonon softening appears away from the Brillouin zone boundary and thus reflects a different type of broken symmetry state. Phase diagram and optical conductivity of the one-dimensional spinless Holstein model

The effects of quantum lattice fluctuations on the Peierls transition and the optical conductivity in the one-dimensional Holstein model of spinless fermions have been studied by developing an analytical approach, based on the unitary transformation method. We show that when the electron-phonon coupling constant decreases to a finite critical value the Peierls dimerization is destroyed by the q...

Peierls instability and optical response in the one–dimensional half–filled Holstein model of spinless fermions Abstract The effects of quantum lattice fluctuations on the Peierls transition are studied within the one–dimensional Holstein molecular crystal model by means of exact diagonalization methods. Applying a very efficient variational Lanczos technique, the ground–state phase diagram is ...

Lattice dynamical effects on the Peierls transition in one-dimensional metals and spin chains

The interplay of charge, spin and lattice degrees of freedom is studied for quasi-one-dimensional electron and spin systems coupled to quantum phonons. Special emphasis is put on the influence of the lattice dynamics on the Peierls transition. Using exact diagonalization techniques the ground-state and spectral properties of the Holstein model of spinless fermions and of a frustrated Heisenberg...

Dominant particle - hole contributions to the phonon dy - namics in the spinless one - dimensional Holstein model

– In the spinless Holstein model at half-filling the coupling of electrons to phonons is responsible for a phase transition from a metallic state at small coupling to a Peierls distorted insulated state when the electron-phonon coupling exceeds a critical value. For the adiabatic case of small phonon frequencies, the transition is accompanied by a phonon softening at the Brillouin zone boundary...

شبیه سازی اثر بی نظمی و میدان مغناطیسی بر ترابرد کوانتومی نانوساختارهای دو بعدی مدل شده با تقریب تنگابست

In recent years, semiconductor nanostructures have become the model systems of choice for investigation of electrical conduction on short length scales. Quantum transport is studied in a two dimensional electron gas because of the combination of a large Fermi wavelength and large mean free path. In the present work, a numerical method is implemented in order to contribute to the understanding ...
